My First Impression of Yale

When asked about my first impression of Yale at yesterday’s interview, the beautiful landscape”was definitely my answer, without any doubt. I will never forget the shock I felt when I got off the shuttle bus and had my first sight of the Yale campus.
I will never forget the shock I felt when I got off the shuttle bus and had my first sight of the Yale campus. This is the place where I am going to study in the next six weeks, the place where I am going to spend my wonderful summer time, the place where I am going to have fun and improve myself in the same time. In short, I will have a significant time in this beautiful landscape.

“Wow it’s like a fairy tale world!”, all three of us couldn’t help screaming out. The Gothic architecture, the green and lovely lawn with small paths winding through it, and some sculptures shining in the sun constituted a large, harmonious picture which I immediately fell in love with. Typically, Berkeley College, the place where I live, has a fantastic landscape. The lawn is in the center, three sides of it are surrounded by the houses, and there are three big and old trees on the lawn. All the stuffs are not symmetrical, they grow in the way they want. I sat at the bench beside the lawn, and felt like I was in a natural forest, calm and comfortable.

Like many others, I fell in love the architecture here quickly. I truly appreciate the wonderful and appropriate combination of modern and classic. The combination of modern and classic made the architecture a brilliant treasure for me.When taking a walk outside, the whole atmosphere seems classic and old, specifically even the entry of my dormitory is made of wood or just look like wood to go with the classical walls and windows. Caressing the door of my dormitory which was made of wood, I felt like I was in a forest, a college forest. However when I go inside the building, I found out that all the facilities and decoration are fresh and modern, as  I could see all the entries have electronic locks. An interesting fact I found about Yale University is that the buildings are not so tall but most of them have a magic extension underground. On the day of my arrival, my counselor showed me around the basement of Berkeley College. I was amazed by the world underground. The long and winding corridors led us to the laundry, the restroom, the mini library, the game center, etc. It seems like there is a surprise waiting for me at every corner. We walled downstairs from North Berkeley and crossed the long corridor with wonderful paintings on both sides of the wall, then we came out of the ground in South Berkeley where I live, it’s like magic!I once had an exploration in Sterling Memorial Library, as I walked down the stairs and traveled underground, I found the “secret passage” to Bass Library. Walking through the long and narrow corridor, I transferred to Bass underground. the reading rooms have large windows which reach out of the ground, the sun shines through the windows and gave the books a golden color.

I am really impressed by Yale's inclusive and open students and staffs. When I finished looking around and walked through the exit of the library, the staff at the door said to me: “have a good night” with an enthusiastic smile, he also asked me to make sure if I have left my bag there. Though I did not turn around and say thank you, I was really touched and feel warm-welcomed.
Just imagine Yale as a large picture, it seems like the people can be put into the large picture and add to its excellence. Sitting on the bench on one side of Cross Campus, you can see some of the boys playing ball games on the grass, some others just sit in the chair and do some reading, after a while a woman jogging while listening to music passes, and then come two men riding skateboard. Academic meditation and sporty activeness can be reached in the beautiful and magic campus at the same time.
At dusk, I sit on the bench of Berkeley College, the bell rings 6 times, and then came the bird song, I lose myself in the atmosphere of the campus and I promise that I will cherish my time in Yale.
